Porta Romana, one of Bear René’s preferred British suppliers, has collaborated with the Grange Park Opera in their new home in West Horsley Place, Surrey.
In 2017 the company relocated to Surrey and built a five-storey opera house in just eleven months. The venue, modelled on La Scala in Milan, has come to be known as the ‘Theatre in the Woods’. The Times Arts Awards acknowledged the achievement as the “Fastest construction of an opera house in history”.
It was at the same time that Porta Romana were contemplating creative ways to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. With West Horsley Place so close to their head quarters, Chairman Andrew Hills set up a meeting with Wasfi Kani and forged a partnership to be a part of the decorative process in completing the ‘Theatre’. Inspired by the romantic setting, the Porta Romana artists painted forty Venetian Gold Beatrice Lights, which can be seen today in all their glory in the auditorium.
Bear René were delighted to be invited to the opening evening celebrating the collaboration between the Grange Park Opera and Porta Romana, as well as, Porta Romana’s 30th Birthday. And what an enchanting evening it was on a magical, sunny evening! Time was spent in the walled gardens speaking with clients and guests before making their way to the auditorium for the performance of Un Ballo in Maschera.
